1. An equimolar mixture of benzene and toluene, at a feed flow rate of 250 kmol/h, is separated in a distillation column. The distillate composition of benzene is 95 mole% and the bottoms product contains 5 mole% benzene. The preheated feed enters the column as a liquid at its bubble point temperature. The reflux ratio Rp is chosen as 1.25 times the minimum reflux ratio Rompin Find the distillate and bottoms product molar flow rates. Estimate the number of equilibrium stages N using the McCabe-Thiele graphical method. Vapor-liquid equilibrium data is provided as two copies in Fig. 1 for estimating RD.min and Fig. 2 for estimating N (use a ruler for accuracy).
