A design wastewater flow of 1.5 MGD containing 175 mg/L BOD (in
the primary effluent) is to
be treated in a single-stage moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR),
while the design SALR is used
to be 25 g/m2
/d with a target BOD removal of 75-80%.
a) What is the BOD loading rate to the reactor in g/day?
b) If the MBBR carrier has a specific surface area of 600 m2
/m3 and design carrier fill % of 40%,
what would be the required volume of carrier and required MBBR tank
volume?
c) If the design carrier % void space is 60%, what would be the
volume of liquid in the MBBR
reactor?
d) Calculate the estimated effluent BOD
concentration.
