Imagine you are performing field compaction tests and reporting
relative compaction to the contractor that is compacting a building
pad. The contactor is using a dump truck loaded with soil to “wheel
roll” each lift by slowly driving back and forth over the soil.
Some compaction test indicate a relative compaction below the
requirement. There is a newly hired person moisture conditioning
the soil. Sometimes they become distracted and spray water on the
same spot for several seconds. The person spreading the soil lifts
has been having a bad day. They appear to be in a rush and are
placing lifts up to 2 feet thick. When you report the failing test
results to the
foreman they become frustrated. What advice could you provide to
the contractor to help them achieve the minimum required relative
compaction?
