Water flows down a half-full circular pipeline of diameter 1.4
m. The pipeline is laid at a gradient of 1 in 250. (a) If the Chezy
coefficient, C, is 55m1/2/s, what is the discharge? (b) Using
equation [ C = R 1/2 / n ] , what value of Manning’s n corresponds
to C = 55m1/2/s? (c) By considering the units of the quantities
involved, show that equation [ C = R 1/2 / n ] is a valid
relationship. (d) Calculate the discharge in the pipeline using the
Manning equation and the result of (b), assuming everything else is
the same.
