Instructions: Write a three part specification for the process of preparing and assembling a peanut butter & jelly sandwich. Use the Descriptive, Proprietary, Performance, or mixed specifying method. Note: I am looking for an understanding of the basic outline of a three part specification as well as an understanding of the different writing methodologies. Feel free to use fictitious brand names, performance criteria etc. (Example: Under Part 2 - Prodiſcts "crunchy peanut butter is to contain no fewer than 10 discernible peanut fragments per level tablespoon"). This exercise is meant to be as much fun as it is informative. Write it as if the intent is to enable an individual who has never heard of or experienced a PB&J to successfully construct a recognizable, enjoyable sandwich using only the specification that you have written I do expect to see the 3 major parts represented; Part 1 - General, Part 2 - Products, Part 3 - Execution. Feel free to improvise the Articles, Paragraphs, and Subparagraphs. Choose a Pageformat and keep it consistent, numbering, lettering, indents, etc. This will be the key Grading Criteria. Reference: Use what you have learned from reading the "Construction Specifications Writing" text. In particular: Exhibit 5-1, Example Section Template, determine which of these articles and paragraphs apply to a PB&J and use them. Also see Page 40: Description of the 3 Parts. Exhibits 6-1 thru 6-8 for various spec. writing method examples. Look to real 3-part specs, such as the TEC Building Project Manual, or those written by product manufacturer's for cues as to how to organize your spec. as well as language to use. (Hint: Many are even available for download as a Word doc. already formatted and easily editable)
