(2) A wastewater flow with the following characteristics is to be treated in a completely mixed activated-sludge system. This system is operated at the HRT of 8 hrs and treats wastewater flowing at 15,000 mºd. Average influent BODs is 250 mg/L and 98% BODS should be removed to meet state regulation. Yield is 0.6 kg biomass/kg BOD5 and decay coefficient is ka = 0.06 d'. The reactor is designed to operate at a biomass concentration of 2,700 mg/L and sludge wastage is 150 mº/d. (a) SRT in days? (b) Return biomass concentration, X, in mg/L? (c) Sludge recycle ratio? (d) Do you think the system is healthy, if optimum F/M ratio is 0.2?
