In a field groundwater investigation, the elevations of the phreatic surface measured in three different non-linear grou
In a field groundwater investigation, the elevations of the phreatic surface measured in three different non-linear groundwater monitoring wells are tabulated as follows: Eastings (m) Northings (m) Elevation (MPD) 125 500 525 250 250 550 4.035 4.335 4.535 (a) Assuming the phreatic surface is a plane, determine the direction of groundwater flow and the hydraulic gradient. (10 marks) (b) If a 4th groundwater monitoring well is constructed at (445, 490), determine the elevation of the groundwater phreatic surface that you would expect. (5 marks) (c) If the 4th groundwater monitoring well is contaminated by LNAPL of density of 800 kg/m' and the groundwater phreatic surface is 0.4 m below what you expect in (b), determine the thickness of the LNAPL in the groundwater monitoring well taking the density of water to be 1,000 kg/mº? (5 marks)
