Question #6: Determine the support reactions, axial force, shear force and bending moment for the entire arch and plot their diagrams. The loads include the self weight of the arch (an unfactored permanent action of 20kN/m UDL) and the loads applied by the cables. 1. Support reactions at A, B 2. Max. axial force 3. BM (1% cut left & values, 3% cuts right & values, 2% BMD plot) For the analysis assume: • The span from building C to the main walkway is simply supported and has a span length of 20m. It applies a point load through a support to the main walkway at 12m from the parabolic cantilever support (See Appendix C). • The main walkway has a pin support at one end and a roller support at the other end; it is suspended by straight cables from the parabolic cantilever and arch (See Appendix C). • The unfactored variable action on the walkway is 5kN/m2 (15kN/m length). The unfactored self weight of the walkway and handrails is 20kN/m length. • Concrete grade C35 reinforcement fyk = 500N/mm2 • Structural steelwork fy = 355N/mm2 • The detailed specification is shown in Appendix B AVAILABLE DATA Appendix B Specification Walkway width: 3m Walkway length: 100m Parapet height: 1.4m Clearance over ground: 6m Clearance over lake: 7m Maximum unsupported length of walkway: 50m Minimum unsupported length of walkway: 30m Variable action (pedestrian/cycle load) SkN/m2 Concrete fcu = 35N/mm2 Reinforcement fyk = 500 N/mm? Structural steelwork fy = 355N/mm2 The geometry of the 3 pin arch parabola is: Y y = -0.111x + 25 -15 15
