Consider using a thermopile arranged to measure temperature
difference to determine the heat flux across a
single pane glass window. The thermal conductivity of the glass is
1.5 W/m K and the window is 5 mm
thick. The thermopile is constructed of J type thermocouples, and
there are 10 active junctions. Determine
the heat flux if the output of the thermopile is 4.61 mV. At
temperatures near room temperature, the
sensitivity of a J type thermocouple is approximately 0.0512 mV/
C.
