The manufacturer of a component that will be subjected to
fatigue from -50MPa to 100MPa, specifies that it must be changed
when it has been detected that the crack has advanced up to 80% of
its critical value. The manufacturing process of the component
leaves cracks on the surface of 0.5mm. The material has the
following properties: KIC = 20MPam1/2 and crack growth is
characterized by n=4 and C= 10E-11. Assume f=1.12.
How many life cycles did the component have left after it had
been removed as directed by the manufacturer?
