Question 2 (a) State the First Law of Thermodynamics. (2 marks) (b) Distinguish between a non flow process and a steady flow process and give a practical example of each (4 marks) (c) A turbine operating under steady flow conditions receives steam at the following state; pressure 1380 kN/m², velocity 30 m/s, specific internal energy 2.59 MJ/kg and specific volume of 0.143 m?/kg. The steam leaves the system at a pressure of 35 kN/m², a velocity of 90 m/s, specific interal energy of 2.36 MJ/kg and a specific volume of 4.37 m²/kg. The amount of heat rejected to the surroundings is 660 J/kg and the rate of steam flow through the turbine is 0.38 kg/s. (i) (ii) Calculate the power developed by the turbine. (25 marks) State any assumptions made in applying the steady flow energy equation. (2 marks)
