Liquid in a container is removed by a tube called siphon as
shown in figure. The tube must be initially filled and the liquid
will flow through the tube until the liquid surface is level with
the tube opening in the container. Given: y = 25 cm, the
atmospheric pressure: 1.0x 105 Pa. (a) Knowing
that the cross sectional area of the tube is very small with
respect to the liquid surface, verify that the speed of the liquid
at this surface is very small with respect to its speed at the
opening of the tube. (b) The speed of the liquid emerging from the
tube is v =2.8 m/s. Compute the height h in figure.
