1. Part-1 RC Circuits 1.1 a) Firstly, calculate the time constant of the circuit. Then, construct the circuit given in Figure-1. Make sure that 5-V input voltage is disconnected. Connect your oscilloscope probes to output terminals. Switch on the the 5-V and record the oscilloscope screen of the output voltage V.. Measure the voltage across the capacitor (V.) after 5 time constants period with an avometer and record this voltage. b) Replace the DC source in Fig. 1 with a signal generator. Apply 5 Vpp square waves with varying frequencies (1-20kHz) to the RC circuit. Observe the input and output waveforms by oscilloscope and take recordings of one cycle for each frequency. Also measure the maximum value (Vmax) of output voltage that can be reached for each frequency. Please note your findings in Table-1. Table-1 Vmax Frequency (kHz) 1 2inn 5 10 20 0169o my 01180 ry
1.2 Build the circuit given in Figure-2 which contains 2 capacitors connected in series. Initially disconnect the power supply. Adjust triggering of the oscilloscope so that when the power supply is turned on oscilloscope records the circuit current and voltage accross VC2. Measure the voltage of each capacitor after they have been fully charged and then fill Table 2. Switch R1 A 100kΩ Avometer C1 10uF V1 —6V C2 4.7uF Figure-2 Table-2 Vi Va 2,04 V ca 3196 6 V
3.1 Write an expression for the current and voltage V. for the circuit in Figure-1. Plot the variation of current and compare with the recording from the oscilloscope (magnitude and time variation). Comment on the results. Is the result in Table-1 expected? Explain. 3.2 Write an expression for the current and capacitor voltage Vc2for the circuit in Figure-2. Plot the variation of current and voltage of Ve2. Compare your plots with the recording from the oscilloscope (magnitude and time variation). Comment on the results. Is the result in Table- I expected? Explain. 3.3 Comment on the voltage sharing between the capacitors in Figure-2. Is this an expected result? Explain with calculations.
