The following table gives data, for a sample of eight years, on the number of days that ice stayed on two lakes in Madison, Wisconsin-Lake Mendota and Lake Monona. Conduct a dependent samples t-test at the 5% level, to investigate if there is a difference in the mean number of days that ice stayed on the two lakes. The questions are given on the next page. Year 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 Mendota 119 115 53 108 74 47 102 87 Monoma 107 108 52 108 85 47 96 91

(A) What are the null and alternative hypotheses? (B) What is (are) the critical values for this test? (C) What is the computed value of the test statistic? (D) What is your conclusion?
