Electromagnetism 2 a) State, in words, the two laws of electromagnetic induction. (3 marks) b) A coil of wire was connected to an ammeter. When a bar magnet with its north pole nearest the coil was moved towards the coil, the needle of the ammeter deflected briefly to the left of centre. i) Explain why this happened. (1 mark) ii) Describe what would have happened if the south pole of the bar magnet had been the nearest the coil. (1 mark) iii) Explain why the needle did not deflect when the magnet was held at rest close to the coil. (1 mark) c) A rod of length 28 cm, moving at a speed of 30 m s-, cuts magnetic field lines of flux density 46 mt at right angles to the field lines. Calculate the e.m.f. induced in the rod. (2 marks)
