Question 3 A Small Source Of Activity 5 X 10 Bq Is Enclosed Inside A Pb Z 82 Shield Thick Enough To Absorb The Beta 1 (31.84 KiB) Viewed 25 times
Question 3 A small source of activity 5 x 10 Bq is enclosed inside a Pb (Z = 82) shield thick enough to absorb the beta particles. The maximum energy of the beta particles is 4.2 MeV. i) Calculate the total rate of beta-particle energy released from the source. ii) Calculate the fraction of the beta energy converted into photons. Calculate the rate of energy (source energy rate) emission by bremsstrahlung. iii) iv) For protection purposes (health physics purposes or radiation hazard) calculate the photon fluence rate (flux) of bremsstrahlung photons a distance 12 cm from the source.
