OPTICS I - DATA PAGE D 2. The index of refraction of various liquids can be determined by using straight pins in the manner by which we determined the index of refraction of the glass square. The liquid can be contained in a thin-walled transparent container (such as a plastic box made to hold a wedge of pie for lunch boxes). Assume that the triangular segment below outlines such a container filled with an unknown liquid and that pins A, B, C, and D have been set and connecting lines drawn to indicate the path of the light ray. Make careful measurements and calculations to determine the refractive index of the liquid. Report your answer as a decimal to three significant digits. Clearly demonstrate the method by which you obtain your answer. USE BOTH REFRACTIONS TO CALCULATE AN INDEX OF REFRACTION, AND THEN AVERAGE THE TWO RESULTS. A с D
