A 1.5 Ci 60 Сo source previously used in a radiotherapy cancer treatment center lies unshielded 1 meter from a 30 feet long walk path in a junkyard. The junkyard owner uses this path twice a day to walk to and from work walking at a 15 minute per mile pace. (a) What is the maximum exposure rate the owner is exposed to? (b) If the source remains at this position for 6 months before it is detected and removed, what is the owners accumulated dose at the end of the 6 month period. (The source is located at the mid-plane between the ends of the walkway). (Lamarsh, Ch. 9 material)
