5. Steam at 140 psia and 1000°F enters a turbine operating at steady state with a mass flow rate of 3.24 lbm/s and exits at 2 psia. Kinetic and potential energy effects may be assumed negligible. (a) If the steam exits the turbine at 250°F, determine the power produced, in hp, assuming the turbine is well insulated. (b) If the steam exits the turbine at 250°F, but heat transfer has been determined to be lost to the surroundings at 40 Btu/lbm of flowing steam, determine the power produced by the turbine, in hp. (c) Determine the maximum theoretical power that can be developed by the turbine, in hp, (d) and the isentropic turbine efficiency.
