1. Introduction:
Consolidation test is used to determine one-dimensional
consolidation properties of the soil. During the test, soil sample
is restrained laterally and drained axially to simulate the one
dimensional consolidation
Procedure
Each group has to record the dial gauge reading for 3 load steps
during and after the scheduled time for the experiments
Report
(1). Plot gauge reading vs log (t) graph for 3 load increments
(Ref: soil mechanics by Craig)
(2). The dial gauge reading vs log (t) plot for the third load
increment, indicate the secondary compression and primary
consolidation regions
(3). Calculate coefficient of consolidation, cv,
coefficient of volume compressibility, mv.
(4). Discuss the practical significance of this test.
