The reduced ambient air cooling system is used for aircraft
running at speed of 1400 km/hour. The ambient
conditions are 0.75 bar and 10C. The ram efficiency is 85%. The
rammed air used for cooling is expanded
in an auxiliary turbine and leaves at pressure of 0.75 bar. The air
bled from the main compressor at 6 bar is
cooled in the heat exchanger and leaves it at 90
C. The cabin is to be maintained at 20C and 1 bar.
The
pressure loss between the cooling turbine and cabin is 0.1 bar. If
isentropic efficiencies for compressor and
both turbines are 85% and 80% respectively, determine: a) Mass flow
rate of air supplied to cabin to take
20 TR cooling load. b) Quantity of ram air passing through the heat
exchanger. c) Power used to drive the
fan. d) COP of the system.
