Title: Evaluation of an inverter to run synchronous motor 1. Assignment Description a. Complex Engineering Problem Willson needs an AC source to run his three phase synchronous motor. Unfortunately he only has a DC source with +60V terminal voltage. The specification of the AC synchronous motor is as follows: The input voltage is 410V rms (50Hz). • Total harmonics distortion (THD) value must be less than 5% as required in power system Therefore, you are required to design an inverter to satisfy Willson's need. b. The Design You are free to choose any topology, as long as requirements (i) and (ii) are satisfied fully. A good design should comply to the specifications. c. Design Verification The proposed design must be verified using MATLAB SIMULINK simulation. You are free to simulate and choose whatever simulation parameters. One requirement is mandatory though. You need to approximate the power factor of the circuit.
