1. (a) Two sine waves A and B have respective frequencies of 20 Hz and 24 Hz, the amplitudes of A and B are both 1 V and they both have a zero phase shift. (i) Determine the period of A, B, and the period of the signal produced when A is added to B. [6 Marks] (ii) Explain what would be the result of multiplying A with B. [3 Marks] (b) An expression for the relationship between the voltage (V) and the current (1) in a circuit component is given as V(I)=4-10x1 (0) Calculate the voltage for the two currents +10 A and then determine an inverse function for this expression. Use the values of voltage found for these currents in the inverse function to verify the inverse function is correct. [7 Marks] (ii) What range of current in this circuit component gives a positive voltage. Use a suitable mathematical proof in your description? [8 Marks] (c) The binary data pattern 1101 is to be formatted using the following two line codes in turn: 1 unipolar return to zero level (RZ-L) with a duty cycle of 50%; Voltages used are 4.5 V and 0 V and the data rate is 250 kbit/s. 2) alternate mark inversion (using a NRZ format for each data pulse). The voltages used are +4.5 V and 0 V respectively, and the data rate is 250 kbit/s. Compare the two formatted signals in terms of the power they contain and their DC level. State any assumptions made.' [9 Marks] Total [33 Marks]
