Suppose a researcher is studying the body composition of
athletes. She records characteristics such as weight, height, age
and reaction time. During her analysis, she dichotomizes weight
into two levels: low and high weight. Should she have done that?
What happened when she dichotomized the variable?
Calculate the mean and standard deviation of the test
scores in table 1
what , if anything, would happen to the statistics you
just calculated if student A had a test score of 11 instead of 31?
(you do not need to recalculate the mean and standard deviation; I
am just looking for a general statement about what you would expect
tot happen. Hint: if the general concept is not coming to you,
recalculate)
Suppose that I had a distribution level scores whose
central tendency statics were: mean= 120, median=105, and mode=100.
What is the probable shape of this distribution?
table o1: test scores for 9th grade
students
Student / Test scores
A / 31
B / 52
C / 46
D / 35
E / 48
F / 43
G / 45
H / 40
