Q.3 (a) Tung Chung New Town extension is under the construction stage. Reclamation and infrastructural works are carried out in phases to suit the population intake in 2030. Upon reclamation, soil compaction work was carried out and several tests were conducted to verify the effectiveness of compaction. To determine the in-situ density of the compacted fill material, a Sand Replacement Test was conducted and the results were shown in Table Q.3(a). Determine the moisture content (w), mass of sand cone, mass of sand to fill the excavated hole, volume of the excavated hole, bulk density (Pbulk) and dry density (Pdry) of the sample.
