The section of a clayey slope is shown in Figure 1. Assuming a
trial circular slip surface BED with arc radius of 11.65 m,
determine whether this is a stable slope. The area of the section
BCDEF is 85 m2 and the centroid of the section is
located at point G as shown in the figure.
The average unit weight of the soil is 18.2 kN/m2. The
shear strength of the soil above and below the level of line ABE is
cu = 22 kN/m2 and cu = 35 kN/m2,
respectively.
