QUESTION 2 An Electroencephalogram (EEG) is a tracing of brain waves recorded by an electroencephalograph. Neurologists have found that the peak EEG frequency in normal children increases with age. In one study (reported in Science, 1982), 287 children ranging from 2 to 16 years old were instructed to hold a 65-gram weight in the palm of their outstretched hand for a brief but unspecified time. The peak EEG frequency (measured in Hz) was then recorded for each child. The children were grouped according to age, and the peak frequency for each group was recorded. A section of the data appears in Table 2. Table 2 Age X (Years) 2 3 4 5 6 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 Average peak EEG Frequency Y (Hertz) 5.33 5.75 5.80 5.60 6.00 5.78 5.90 6.23 7.28 7.06 7.60 7.45 8.23 8.50 9.38 a.) Construct a scatterplot for the data. b.) Find the least squares prediction equation using the calculation formulas. c.) Calculate SSE, S and S for the least squares line. Interpret the value of s. d.) Do the data provide sufficient evidence to indicate that age, x, contributes information for the prediction of average peak frequency, y? Test using a -0.05. c.) Determine the coefficient of correlation for the data. Interpret your result 1.) Test for significance of the coefficient of correlation Test using a =0.05. 8.) Calculate the coefficient of determination, r. Interpret your result.
