Question #1: In your view, what is IBM’s Smarter City (IBM SC)
business strategy? Please explain how can the IT companies come
together to work collaboratively to expand on IBM SC strategy to
help us build a smarter planet for the humanity? (Please draw all
useful ideas from any applicable course contents and guest
lectures.)
Question #2: It can be argued that governments at various levels
(including national, state and city administrations), not only
deliver services, but also play vital economic roles in shaping
local and national economies. Clearly, IBM Smarter City initiative
demonstrates how collaboration between governments and private
sector enterprises can be significantly enhanced in the digital
era. Clearly, there is plenty of evidence to indicate that this
type of collaboration is not unique to the IBM case. For example,
in China, the Alibaba Group, and the City of Hangzhou (just to list
one example), worked together to improve traffic problems with data
and algorithms.
