Question 1: A proton collides elastically
with another proton that is initially at rest. The incoming proton
has an initial speed, v1i , of 6.8 x
105 m/s and makes a glancing collision with the
second proton. After the collision, the incident proton moves off
at an angle of θ = 22.6 degrees to the original
direction of motion, and the target proton deflects at an
angle Φ to the same axis.
The diagram below illustrates the before and after case, use
this diagram to answer the following questions:
1. What is the final speed of the projectile
proton, v1f, give the answer in x
105 m/s form.
2. What is the final speed of the target
proton, v2f , give the answer in x
105 m/s form.
3. What is he angle of emission of the target proton in
radians?
4. What is the angle of emission between the two protons in
degrees?
