Question
Joanne just moved her mother into a long-term care facility
because she has advanced Alzheimer’s disease and Joanne just cannot
take care of her at home any longer. After making the
decision to place her mom in the facility, she begins to feel
guilty even though she knows the placement was
necessary. Her mother, on the other hand, is angry and
unable to understand the decision. Both Joanne and her
mother are experiencing frustration, fear, sadness, anger,
loneliness, and depression. How can you as the LNA respond to the
emotional needs of both Joanne and her mother?
