Hole in One ~ Shelyce is very interested in professional golf statistics. She obtains data from 2008 for the highest earning professional golfers that year. The data set contains the variables: 1) Drive Accuracy (in percentage): the percentage of time a tee shot comes to rest in the fairway. 2) Drive Distance (in yards): the average distance a golfer hits the golf ball using the driver. 3) Greens in Regulation (in percentage): the percentage of time a ball is on the putting surface after a Greens in Regulation stroke. Shelyce wants to use linear regression to predict a pro golfer's Drive Accuracy. The scatter plots and summary statistics below summarize the data for 150 professional golfers in 2008. Accuracy by Distance 290 300 Drive accuracy (%) 270 280 310 320
Average drive distance in yards Accuracy by Greens in Regulation 65 70 Greens in Regulation (%) Variable Mean Standard Deviation Drive Accuracy 63.3373 5.258 Drive Distance 289.6167 8.494 Greens in Regulation 65.176 2.7613 The correlation coefficient for Drive Accuracy and Drive Distance is r = -0.5247. The O goefficient for Driv 0 41 4 Drive accuracy (%) 60
The correlation coefficient for Drive Accuracy and Drive Distance is r = -0.5247. The correlation coefficient for Drive Accuracy and Greens in Regulation is r = 0.4145. 1. Use the summary statistics to find the equation of the regression line for predicting Drive Accuracy from Drive Distance. Remember to use all decimal places for intermediate calculations. Round final answers to 4 decimal places. y = + x. 2. Calculate the R² value for the regression of Drive Accuracy from Drive Distance and complete the sentence below to interpret the R² value. % of the variation in ??? can be explained by the linear relationship with ??? 3. Which variable, Drive Distance or Greens in Regulation, would serve as a better linear predictor for Drive Accuracy and why? ??? ✓because ??? Help Entering Answers Preview My Answers Submit Answers
