11. (24 points) For the following situations give the name of the design used to collect the data. Give a partial analysis of variance table indicating all sources of variability and their associated degrees of freedom. Design: CRD Source DF a. An experiment is performed to see whether different operators obtain different results in the routine analysis to determine the amount of nitrogen in soil. Since soils vary naturally in nitrogen content, 3 soil samples are chosen at random. Each soil sample is divided into (5) parts with one part being analyzed by each of the 5 operators. It is assumed operators can work with each soil so that soil and operator should not interact significantly. Operators Soil Error b. A mechanical engineer is studying the thrust force developed by a drill press. He suspects that drilling speed and the feed rate of the material are the most important factors. He selects 4 feed rates and 2 drill speeds. Each of the 8 combinations of feed rate and drill speed is replicated 3 times. All 24 runs are done in a completely random order.
