Please answer all parts. answers allows multi-part questions and
parts d and e need information from the previous answers.
A rectangular channel (n=0.012) with a bottom width of 10.0 ft
is to carry water at a flow rate of 390 ft3 /s on a slope of
0.5%.
a)Calculate the normal depth for this channel
b)Calculate the Froude number under uniform flow conditions
c)Calculate the critical depth
d)Is a hydraulic jump possible downstream of a location where
the depth was measured to be approximately equal to the normal
depth (i.e. y=yn)? If so, what is the depth after the jump and the
energy lost in the jump?
e)Using your calculated values for normal depth and critical
depth, classify the water surface profile (e.g. M2) if y = 3.2 ft.
Be sure to show your work to justify your classification
