A 75 year old woman has been admitted to the orthopedic unit after a right fractured hip repair. She lives alone and fell while hanging curtains in her bedroom. Her postoperative orders include a PCA pump prescribed as morphine 1 mg every 10 minutes. She is currently alert and tells the nurse, "lam in so much pain, I'd rather die. Vitals are: temp 99 2F, pulso 102, respirations-20, and BP 142/92 What common physiologic responses are expected for a client in acute pain? What are several non-opioid medications that could be used to manage pain in addition to the PCA pump? What are the nursing priorities for a client using a PCA pump?
