You are trying to determine K for the reaction between copper sulfate (CuSO) and ammonium hydroxide (NH,OH) using a UV/Vis. Copper sulfate is a light blue solution ammonium hydroxide (ammonia) is coloress. Both solutions are clear. When mixed they form a copper-ammonia-water complex that is clear and dark blue. You decide to use Le Chatelier's to shift the equilibrium by adding barium chloride (BaCl₂). The solution is cloudy and a lighter blue, but not as light as the original solution. The measured absorbance goem up. 1. Which way would the equilibrium shift? HINT: Consider Ksp and the bystander ions 2. Why does the absorbance go up? Does this suggest a forward or reverse shift?
