Sodium bicarb or bicarbonate of soda has the formula NaHCO3. This is a sodium salt that, when dissolved in water, dissociates into the sodium cation and the hydrogen carbonate anion according to the reaction: NaHCO,(aq) → Na*(aq) + HCOỹ (aq) The hydrogen carbonate species is amphoteric in solution and can thus react with water as either an acid.or as a base.
