Methanol, also known as methyl alcohol,
is a toxic alcohol and is becoming a popular alternative fuel
source. Globally, the use of methanol as a fuel now accounts for
10% of all fuel use (about 7 million tonnes per year) but is
expected to increase in the future. Methanol can be produced by the
reaction of carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of a
catalyst.
