The Shooting Gallery: Years ago, shooting galleries at amusement parks had real weapons. They were .22 caliber rifles that kids and adults would shoot at various targets ranging from 5 meters to 25 meters. The entire gallery was set into a concrete structure with a steel rear wall to prevent bullets from escaping the range. Currently this style of shooting gallery is nonexistent due to the danger of arming young children (and adults) with real weapons. You propose to change that. You will design a shooting gallery that is mathematically 100% safe. The base design will have 6 shooting lanes that can fire 5 to 25 meters each. You will need to determine a muzzle velocity in order to slow down the .22 caliber bullets enough so that they will not travel outside of your shooting gallery. Safety of the participants and the innocent bystanders must be high on your list of considerations as well as the cost of building the gallery. You plan on using 1/4 inch steel to construct your shooting positions and 1 inch steel to construct your back stop. Your analysis should include a detailed description of each firing point and demonstrate that it is safe for a variety of situations.
