6. [15 Marks] Finalize reasonable thicknesses of the asphalt
concrete, aggregate base and aggregate subbase layers of the
flexible pavement portion of your road project. Follow the AASHTO
1993 Pavement Design Guide. Notes: • Use the design cumulative ESAL
(W18) value already obtained by you. • Use reasonable estimation of
the design parameters - indicating the sources of information. •
Choose your layer material types for AC layer, Base layer and
Subbase layer. • Pavement structure will be exposed to moisture
levels approaching saturation for 15% time. • Roadbed soil CBR and
Quality of drainage are given in Table 3. • Draw your own lines on
the Nomograph for flexible pavement. • Draw a simple cross-section
diagram of the flexible pavement portion showing the finalized
thicknesses of different layers.
