Q6. A saturated sample of normally consolidated clay was consolidated in the triaxial cell under an all-round cell press
Q6. A saturated sample of normally consolidated clay was consolidated in the triaxial cell under an all-round cell pressure of 400 kN/m². When consolidation was complete, the drainage valve was closed and with the cell pressure maintained constant a gradually increasing deviator stress was applied to the sample under undrained conditions until failure occurred. Calculate: (a) The compression strength of the sample (b) The magnitude of the pore water pressure at failure Assume: c = 0, 9=13 and c'=0, p'= 22° (Ans. (a) 631.9 kN/m², (b) 206.4 kN/m²)
