A contractor plans to use a crawler dozer for foundation
excavate of a parking garage at an altitude of 10,000 fl. The
capacity of the tractor's blade is estimated to be 5.5 LCY, and the
average haul distance for dozing is estimated to be 450 feet up a
15% slope. The surface type that the dozer is working with is loose
gravel. The tractor has a power shift engine and weighs 67,200 lb.
The tractor will excavate and push the excavated loose material and
return. (note: 1 ton = 2,000 lb, 1 mi/hr = 88 ft/min) 1).
1_What is the derating factor % of the engine
performance?
2_Based on the derating factor from 1, what is
the required drawbar pull for dozing?
3_Bared on the surface type and tracks determine if the tractor
can perform the work for dozing (no slippery).
