Question: You are the HR manager for a call center in the United
States where about 400 employees work in cubicles, earning between
$15 and $25 per hour. Employees receive 10 days of PTO each year
(including holidays and sick leave). Your president is concerned
because your turnover rate is increasing, recruiting is more
challenging, and many employees seem stressed. She allocates
$80,000 in funds for a wellness initiative; this budget may or may
not be renewed in future years depending on results and company
performance. Propose how you would spend this money to improve
employee health, safety, and/or well-being, and briefly explain why
you think this would be a cost-effective way to benefit employees
and the organization. What type of data would you collect before

To improve the health, safety, and the overall well-being of my employees, I would conduct interviews to discover the impacts and influences of the increased turnover rate. After addressing the issue with the employees, I would gather an analysis on the main influences that have contributed to the increased turnover rate. As the HR manager, I would allocate the $80,000 in funds towards fitness center/gym membership discounts, scholarships towards tuition, and other discounts that have the potential to increase the overall physical and mental health of my employees. While the $80,000 is a small budget and is not enough funds for an on-site gym, it creates opportunities for employees to participate and join gyms and fitness centers at a discounted membership price. Before the implementation of the health and fitness and discounted plans, the type of data that I would collect already include the interviews, but also surveys to gather an analysis on how many employees would take advantage of the new plans. In order to evaluate its effectiveness, I would conduct more surveys and interviews, and also measure the overall performance and success within the 400 employees and observe whether the new plans made a positive impact on the employees and organization.
