Statistical Mechanics. Carefully explain.
Let be an ideal gas, monatomic, isolated, at temperature T and occupying a volume V. It's internal energy is given by the caloric equation of state: , where N is the number of atoms in the gas.
a) Calculate the entropy S (U, N) of the system.
b) Deduct (up to a multiplicative constant) the expression for the number of accessible microstates, Ω(U,N), for fixed U.
c) Show whether the entropy is maximum or minimum.
