A cylinder weighing 2.5 kg connected to two springs is oscillating freely (Figure 1) and the oscillation period is determined to be 0.75 s. The whole system is then immersed in oil (Figure 2) and released from its equilibrium position. The damping oscillation occurs so that the ratio of two consecutive positive amplitudes is 4.
