Question 1 (a) An aircraft with a wing surface area 37 m², mean chord 2m, is flying with a steady true airspeed V=78 m/s where the air density is 0.8 kg/m3. Given that, the angle of attack a is 5º and the resultant aerodynamic force F is 69kN (Figure Qla below). (i) Estimate the altitude the aircraft is flying at given its local air density [2] [2] (ii) What flow regime the aircraft is flying in? (iii) What are the lift and drag components of the resultant force acting on the wing in the diagram below? [4] (iv) Calculate Cl and Cd of the wing below. [4] (v) [3] A pilot deploys flaps during flight giving the wing a Clmax of 1.2. Determine the lowest stalling speed of the aircraft at this point.
