The wall of an extension is to be built on the side of an existing building consist of one layer of brick 102.5 mm wide and a layer of breeze block 100 mm thick plus an air gap of 100mm. The inner temperature is 22°C and the outer temperature is 7°C. Determine the rate of heat loss through the wall, assuming that the heat transfer coefficient from outer wall (brick) to the outside air is 5W/m2.K, the heat transfer coefficient of the air gap is 15.6 W/m2.K and the thermal conductivities of the outer wall is 0.85 W/m.K and the inner wall is 0.65 W/m.K. The air gap is to filled with a cellulose material having a R value of 0.4 W/m2.K Compare the change in thermal efficiency after the addition of the cellulose insulation, determine the percentage change.
