Question 3 (a) Briefly discuss, in your own words, the term diversity and its related terms in the context of load estimations in an electrical installation. (4 marks) (b) An estate development has three blocks of office buildings on a podium, which has shopping/display areas and carparks. The useable floor area (UFA) of the whole development can be divided into four categories as shown below: • UFA for offices, conference rooms and administrative purposes: (30,000 + b * 1000) m? • UFA for shop display areas and shopping hall: 8,000 m² • UFA for basement carpark: (3,000 + c*100) m² • UFA for main lobbies, lift lobbies, lift shafts, stairs, refuse area, plant rooms, toilets, changing rooms, public corridors, and other public circulation areas: 10,000 m² . Major E&M plants in the development are: • Central Chillertplant (indirect seawater cooling) of total 3000 TR (Ton of Refrigeration) Other parts of the central HVAC system, of course, the same 3000 TR equivalent. Pumps (such as fresh water & flush water pumps, fire alarm, fire & sprinkler pumps, sump pumps, etc.): total 300 kVA (including: 100 kVA for fire & sprinkler pumps) Fire service control & monitoring system, fire alarm, fire exit size, essential lighting, essential ventilation load for fire & staircase pressurization system for fire and other fire protection related equipment: 250 kVA. • (10+b) nos. lift, each 30 kVA (including one fireman lift) • 10 nos, of escalators, each 25 kVA • Other essential loadings, (such as computers & sensors of the Building Management System) which need to be kept running during fire/power outage: 35 kVA (15 marks) (i) Estimate the total maximum demand of electricity for the development. (ii) Suggest the size of the standby generator. (iii) Suggest the numbers of transformers and transformer rooms to be used, state your assumption(s). Assuming 1.5 MVA transformers are used. (iv) Give a rough sketch of the arrangement of the main distribution board, including the connection to the standby generator,
