A potentiometric displacement transducer with a uniform resistance per unit length of track has a resistance of 25 k and track length of 20 mm and used with the output voltage being measured with an instrument of internal resistance 50 ks as shown in Figure 1.1 below. The potentiometer is connected to a 24 V d.c. source of negligible internal resistance. + Vs B Vm Jolie - ip im Figure 1.1: Potentiometric Displacement Transducer
If the output voltage is measured as 6 V, (Give all your answers correct to three (3) significant figures): (a) Determine the resistance of the potentiometer across node-A and node-B, RAB. [4] RAB= kiloOhms (b) Determine the resistance of the potentiometer across node-B and node-C, RBC. [4] RBC= kiloOhms (c) Determine the combined resistance of the potentiometer, RBC and Voltmeter, Rm. [2] RBCM= kilo Ohms (d) How much current, im will be measured through the Voltmeter using ideal Ammeter? [2] ima mA (e) How much current, ip will be measured through the node-C using ideal Ammeter? [2] mA (f) How much current, is will be measured through the voltage source using ideal Ammeter? [2] is = mA (g) How much output voltage, Vm will be measured using ideal Voltmeter? [2] Vm= V (h) How much less or more is the measured voltage by the Voltmeter than the theoretical output voltage? [2] V= V
