A food-services company with a 480 V, three-phase service entrance has the following set of loads: A 8 ton walk-in refrigeration unit:- COP of 2.1 and 0.80 lagging power factor A conveyor belt system consisting of 3 continuous-duty induction motors: each 8 HP, 93% efficient, PF = 0.75 lagging • A 55,000 BTU/hr food dehydrator A 13 kVA T8 fluorescent lighting system with electronic ballasting (PF = 0.95 leading) Consider the case when all systems are fully loaded. Calculate the reactive power required to compensate this customer's load to a 0.97 lagging power factor.
2 1 ton of refrigeration = 3.517kW. COP = n/100% 31kW = 3.4kBTU/hr 3
