Problem #1. Complete an innovative stormwater design for the site below assuming it is located in Southfield, Michigan (Oakland County). For scale, the lot size is 210 ft by 160 ft and the building is soft by 100 ft. There are existing sewers on both the north and west sides of the lot that overflow structures can be released into. 1) For DA-2, create a permeable pavement design for a 10-year design storm and an in-situ soil infiltration rate of 0.5 inches/hour. This will convert a portion of DA-2 impervious parking lot into permeable pavement. Clearly state the type of system you have chosen and any other assumptions or design choices you make. 2) Repeat #1 for a second permeable pavement design system of your choice. 3) List the pros/cons of the two systems you have chosen and why a client would pick one over the other (short memo to a client). 4) For DA-1, design a bioretention cell using Darcy's Law for a 2-year 24-hour storm and clearly state any other assumptions or design choices you make. If possible, locate the bioretention cell in the NW corner of DA-L. If that is not possible, then place the bioretention cell in the same location as shown on the map. 5) Repeat #4 and include DA-3 in your computations in other words, locate the cell in DA- 3 as shown and your total drainage area into your bioretention cell becomes 0.55 acres). A full report and AutoCAD drawings are NOT required. However, a memo to a client along with basic engineering computations supporting your suggestion are required. Detailed cross- section of the bioretention cell and porous pavement are required (these could be drawn in AutoCAD or other drawing software) and clear technical design computations need to be included.
